In recognition of Kent’s reputation as the ‘Garden of England’, we visit the impressive Walmer Castle and its magnificent garden, take in a wine tasting and visit some of its famous towns and Canterbury.
Monday We head towards Kent with a lunchtime stop in the resort of Eastbourne.
Tuesday We visit Walmer Castle to learn more about its fascinating history and famous former residents including the Duke of Wellington. The gardens include herbaceous borders, pretty blooms, and mature trees. Later we visit the charming resort of Deal.
Wednesday We spend the morning in Rye, a medieval citadel huddled against invaders and the sea, Rye reveals its history gently. Today it is home to a myriad of art, curiosities, and cosy pubs built on smuggled secrets and timeless tales, Rye has nooks and crannies to explore and distant views across Romney Marsh to ponder. Later, we visit Chapel Down Winery for a talk and tasting.
Thursday We spend the day in Canterbury, where you can soak up the seasonal scenery, shop with ease at incredible independent shops, explore the heritage and rich culture and be inspired by the architecture. The city dates over 1,000 years and boasts a fine cathedral.
