Train rides, Elan Valley, Abbey-cwy-hir and Llandridnod Wells Victorian Festival

Monday A lunchtime stop in Abergavenny and a lovely drive through the Brecon Beacons to Llandridnod Wells.

Tuesday To Aberystwyth where we catch the Vale of Rheidol Railway to Devil’s Bridge, a nostalgic journey through some of Wales’ most spectacular scenery. We have an hour’s stop at Devil’s Bridge before the return so with a short walk you can see the world famous falls, 3 bridges and the Punchbowl. Free time in Aberystwyth before our return.

Wednesday We visit nearby Abbey-cwm-hir hall for a guided tour of the hall. The 2 hour tour takes in all 52 rooms plus the 12 acres of landscaped gardens. In the afternoon we enjoy a spectacular drive around the Elan Valley Dams and Reservoirs.

Thursday To Llanfair and a ride on the Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway. We have a return journey of 45 minutes each way and you can enjoy the scenery from the unique Hungarian and Austrian coaches with open balconies. Especially enjoy the ride up notoriously steep Golfa Bank with the sound of the locomotive echoing off the hills. Then back to Llandidnod for free time.

Friday Homeward bound with a  lunch time stop in Ludlow, which has over 500 listed buildings and a castle at its heart it’s often referred to as the perfect historic town.
