High Summer Highland Fling

5 Days | Kingussie

Includes boat cruise, Strathspey Railway, whisky tasting and Highland Folk Museum!

Mountains, glens, lochs, and legends; this tour allows us to take in all that makes Scotland so spectacular. Although this holiday is shorter and cheaper than some of our other Scotland holidays, we do not miss out on anything! From our main base in Kingussie, nestling within the Cairngorms National Park, we visit some ‘must-see’ attractions coupled with amazing scenery. In early July the sun is up for nearly eighteen-hours a day this far north allowing us to enjoy it to the fullest!

Saturday - Over the border, past Glasgow and then through the Highlands to our base for 4-nights in Kingussie.

Sunday - To Fort Augustus, a lovely town where the Caledonian Canal meets Loch Ness. Following free time, we board our boat for a wonderfully relaxing cruise on Loch Ness with stunning views of Urquhart Castle and possibly Nessie!

Monday - Dalwhinnie Distillery dates from 1897. It lies in the heart of the Scottish Highlands in a remote location that is the highest location of a distillery in Scotland. We have a guided tour followed by a tasting. We also visit Fort William with its views of Ben Nevis.

Tuesday - The Strathspey Railway will transport us back in time on a ten-mile-long branch line where little has changed since 1863 when the Victorians first built the railway. The first stretch of the line will be known to many fans of the TV series Monarch of the Glen as Glenbogle Station. Wander around Boat of Garten to grasp the full sense of British Rail as it was in the 1950s and 1960s, before disembarking at Aviemore station. Later we visit the open-air Highland Folk Museum in Newtonmore. There are over thirty historic buildings showing how Highland people lived from the 1700s to the 1960s.

Wednesday - We return home.
