The Inn on the Lake enjoys one of the most spectacular settings in the Lake District with its 15 acres of lawns sweeping to the shores of Ullswater. The restaurant has creative, exciting menus using fresh, local ingredients to ensure you remember the food as much as the hotel.
Monday North with a late lunchtime stop in Kendal, a market town on the edge of the Lake District. We travel to Pooley Bridge and along the shores of Ullswater to our hotel.
Tuesday Into the Pennines and views all day as we climb all the way up to the Hartside Top, where we take a short break to enjoy the views back as far as the Lake District. Then on to the town of Hexham where today is Market Day. Hexham has an excellent range of specialist and independent shops to explore. We return via the B6318 from Chollerford to Gilsland which follows the course of Hadrian’s Wall.
Wednesday We pass Brothers Water and then over the dramatic Kirkstone Pass, with views of Windermere, and we make a stop in the town of Ambleside. Then through the heart of the wonderfully scenic Lake District, taking in Rydal Water, Grasmere and Thirlmere to the ever-popular North Lakes tourist town of Keswick. Great scenery all day and we view 7 of the lakes!
Thursday The holiday is not over as we make a morning stop in Hawkshead, a car-less high fells village. As we head home we enjoy one more lake as we pass along Coniston Water before heading south.
