The 4-star Waldeck Spa and Wellness Hotel is located on the edge of the small town of Bad Dürrheim, in the heart of the Black Forest. It is set amongst woods and has a salt water indoor pool, sauna, herbal steam bath and a Finnish Sauna in the glass house. Whilst here we see lush meadows, pine clad hills, rushing rivers and traditional chocolate box villages. We enjoy two scenic train rides, one of which is steam, a boat trip on Lake Titisee and a guided visit to the Open Air Black Forest Museum. On our travelling days the holiday continues as we visit the great Black Forest towns of Freiburg and Baden-Baden.
Wednesday To France and our overnight hotel in St Avold.
Thursday We follow the River Rhine south from Strasbourg and make a lunchtime stop in Freiburg, our first taste of the Black Forest. Freiburg is a city of miniature streams and cobble stone streets and an historic jewel. From here we continue to our hotel.
Tours at Resort
A | A FREE DAY to relax and enjoy this famous spa resort. The town also has many parks and gardens.
B | To the old walled town of Villingen, where we have a short time to explore before we join the Black Forest Railway for a 45-minute journey to Hausach that includes loops, tunnels and a high viaduct. Then on to the Black Forest Museum where we have an English-speaking guide as we learn of the history and culture of the area.
C | We head to beautiful Lake Titisee for a sightseeing cruise on the lake. Later, we take the Pigtail Steam Railway from Blumberg to Weizen on a 90-minute journey. There are many twists and turns on the route and great photo opportunities.
Monday One more stop in the Black Forest as we visit Baden-Baden, where the city’s rich history blends seamlessly with a highly contemporary lifestyle. Then the final treat of the holiday as we drive through the Alsace via Bitche to our overnight stop at the same hotel.
Tuesday We return home.
