The Cowal Peninsula offers a tantalizing taste of the Scottish High-lands flanked by Loch Long and Loch Fyne. It is as beautiful as it is diverse, from the towering mountains of the north to the mellow scenery and sea lochs of the south. Our base is Dunoon which is the areas foremost resort built around the historic Castle Mound and famous for its large Victorian Pier.
First Day To Glasgow and we cross the Firth of Clyde by ferry to Dunoon.
Tours whilst at Resort
A | Dramatic mountain, loch and coastal scenery as we travel to Oban via Lochgilphead. Oban is a seaside town with views of distant isles. We return on a different route passing through the Pass of Brander.
B | Into the Scottish Highlands and the towering mountains of Glen Coe, carved out centuries ago by icy glaciers and volcanic explosions. Great scenery all day and we make photo stops plus stops at the Glen Coe Visitor Centre and also the Meeting of the Three Waters, where three rivers meet in a dramatic waterfall location.
C | We cross the Kyles of Bute by ferry and enjoy a circular tour of the Isle of Bute passing through Ardscalpie Bay, Kingarth and Ascog before we make a short lunchtime stop in the Island’s capital of Rothesay. Later we return to the mainland and the remainder of the day is free to enjoy Dunoon after we have stopped at a view point on the A803.
