Monday North to our hotel in Grange-over-Sands just south of the Lake District.
Tuesday We travel through the heart of the wonderfully scenic Lake District, taking in Coniston Water, Rydal Water and Grasmere, to the ever-popular North Lakes tourist town of Keswick. Following a lunchtime stop here we continue to England’s most beautiful lake, Ullswater, for a cruise on a ‘steamer’ from Pooley Bridge to Glenridding. We return to the hotel via the beautiful Kirkstone Pass.
Wednesday We enjoy a single journey on a steam train through the beautiful Leven Valley on the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway, before enjoying a delightful cruise along Lake Windermere from Lakeside to Bowness-on-Windermere. Bowness is popular all year round and people come here to sail on the lake or just to relax and savour the atmosphere and the town’s delightful setting. We also spend time in the bustling village of Ambleside. The town is surrounded by beautiful fells, woodland and parks and has great shopping plus the quirky Bridge House.
Thursday Full steam ahead to the Western Lakes for a nostalgic trip back in time on the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway, affectionately known by the locals as ‘La’al Ratty’. Enjoy a return trip on Lakeland’s oldest and longest railway from the delightful coastal village of Ravenglass through two glorious valleys to the foot of England’s highest mountains. On our return we will make a short stop in the market town of Ulverston, which is home to the Laurel & Hardy Museum, before returning to Grange-over-Sands for free time to explore this genteel, Edwardian resort.
Friday We return home with a lunchtime stop at the Trentham Estate Shopping Centre.
