Cluedo at Colonel Mustard’s Country House

Inc. Burghley House, Boat on Rutland Water, Woolsthorpe Manor, real life Cluedo

A celebration of local foods and folklore, set in a delightful country house hotel. The house was once the home of Colonel Colman (of mustard fame) and was said to be the person Colonel Mustard was based on and one night we play an adaption of the game. We also have a pork-pie making experience one night and a talk with tasting of locals cheeses on another. There is also, of course, a packed itinerary during the day!

Tuesday We travel via a lunchtime stop in Warwick. On our arrival we are met with a cuppa and biscuits.

Wednesday Travelling via Oakham we visit Rutland Water Visitor Centre where we enjoy a boat trip on the large water. We later continue through the pretty villages of Cottesmore, Thistleton and Stainby to Woolsthorpe Manor, the family home of Sir Isaac Newton. Enjoy his house and gardens plus the famous “gravity tree” in the orchard! In the evening there is a light hearted quiz plus a cheese talk and tasting.

Thursday We visit Burghley, “Britain’s greatest Elizabethan house” set in a wonderful estate. Later we visit Stamford where Middlemarch was filmed. This evening we bring the game of Cluedo to life where we solve the mystery of whodunit, in which room and how!

Friday We stop at the Sherwood Forest Visitor Centre where we can view one of England’s oldest trees. Later we enjoy the city of Nottingham. In the evening we reboard our coach for the short journey to Melton Mowbray where we “raise” our own pork pies!

Saturday We return to Melton Mowbray to collect our pies and enjoy the excellent street market before returning home.

Holiday includes return coach travel, tours as indicated (including Lake cruise, Woolsthorpe Manor, Burghley House and Pork Pie making) and hotel accommodation of bed, breakfast and evening meal.
