Monday We head north to Newcastle with stops en route including Thirsk, a traditional north Yorkshire market town.
Tuesday Free time on Newcastle’s Quayside before we enjoy a two hour cruise on the Tyne travelling under eleven of the Tyne’s famous bridges, including the Gateshead Millenium Bridge, Tyne Bridge and Swing Bridge. More time after the cruise to explore Newcastle and maybe cross the Tyne to the Sage in Gateshead.
Wednesday To Alnwick where we have an included visit to the gardens where we can explore acres of fascinating plants, water sculptures, the infamous Poison Garden and one of the world’s largest treehouses! Later we continue on a scenic drive via Rothbury and Otterburn to the attractive market town of Hexham.
Thursday We take a scenic drive along the Northumberland coast with a stop in Bamburgh, a lovely village by the sea with its impressive castle. We have included admission to the castle which has stunning views of the Farne Islands. Later we make a brief visit to Holy Island, accessible only by a tidal causeway.
Friday We return home with a stop in Ripon, founded over 1300 years ago with a 7th century cathedral.
