Thursday To Scotland and our overnight hotel, the Erskine Bridge Hotel.
Friday To Bo’ness for our first train ride, a return journey on the Bo’ness and Kinneil Railway to Manuel. There is then time to enjoy the Museum of Scottish Railways. Then we head north of the mighty bridges crossing the Firth of Forth and the Tay Estuary to our hotel in Aberdeen. That evening we have a Welcome Talk from a local.
Saturday Through the Coreen Hills and into Malt Whisky Country. Our lunchtime stop is at Baxters Highland Village which offers a variety of shops stocked with Baxter’s famous soup as well as other specialist food, whiskeys and much more! Later we enjoy our next train ride with a 40 minute single journey from Dufftown to the historic town of Keith on the Keith and Duffway Railway. We return via a different route through Huntly and Glens of Foudland.
Sunday South to Brechin and we enjoy a return journey on the restored Caledonian Railway. Following free time in Montrose we visit the fascination Montrose Air Station, where many of the Battle of Britain Pilots were trained. We return to Aberdeen via the coastal road.
Monday A free day to explore the Granite City, with a rich maritime history. Union Square Shopping centre is a 10 minute walk away and 45 minute harbour cruises are available (not included).
Tuesday We head south following the pretty River Dee and pass the Balmoral Estate en route to our lunch time stop in Braemar, home of the Highland Games and in Royal Deeside. We leave Scotland on the East Coast for a different route home and spend the night at the Holiday Inn in Washington near Durham.
Wednesday We return home.
